Our visit with the Governor

Last Thursday, Elizabeth C and I, Tamsyn M, travelled to Sydney to attend the Secondary Schools Leadership Program at Parliament House. We travelled up with Mr and Mrs Bray as well as Ryan D, Nicholas H and Charlotte D. However, they attended a different program. To begin the day, we listened to parliamentarians speak about how they became politicians and each gave us a piece of advice. This advice included: listen to the people around you; take every opportunity; and, don’t let anyone tell you you can’t do anything. After this, we sat in on the Legislative Council and Legislative Assembly, listening to debates over certain bills. Following lunch, our program involved a walk to Government House where we received a tour of the lower storey of this magnificent house. Then Her Excellency, the Honourable Justice Margaret Beazley QC AO who was appointed Governor of NSW in May 2019, spoke to us and answered questions from the audience. Her apartment is upstairs and we were told that it was longer than 30 metres and quite a luxurious living space for the Governor. To conclude the day, we had afternoon tea with Her Excellency and then travelled back to Nowra.
