Annette Smyth

Guitar: acoustic, electric and bass

Annette grew up in a musical family and learnt guitar from a very young age, studying both classical and rock / pop genres. She commenced teaching guitar once she left school, giving lessons both privately, as well as at a local music business. During this time Annette also studied Primary Education at University where she also specialised in music. For many years she has worked in the state school system as a Primary school teacher and specialist music teacher, working with a range of instrumental groups as well as dance and choir ensembles. She has also performed in rock bands for many years as a lead and rhythm guitarist and lead vocalist. Her passion for playing and performing still sees her currently playing in a local 3 piece band. Annette joined NCS a number of years ago, teaching guitar to students in K – 12 and strongly believes that the first part of learning an instrument is that it has to be enjoyable and relevant to the child. She structures her lessons around the goals , needs and interests of each student, at an individual level, working in the genres of rock/pop guitar (learning chords, rhythm and lead guitar as well as reading tablature) , or classical guitar ( focussing on reading, interpreting and playing musical notation) , or a combination of both. At present Annette’s lessons are all full but she does have a waiting list for any interested students
