On Friday 16 August, 20 Primary students gathered at Blacktown International Sport Centre for the CSSA State Athletics involving 78 schools from NSW.
Students competed in a variety of track and field events representing our school and the South Coast zone in the flashy new zone singlets (organised by Mark Wynn from Cedars Christian College in Wollongong).
A big congratulations to all students involved for making it to this event. Representing the zone is an excellent effort! Overall, we achieved six top ten results for our school/zone.
Of special note, Emily M (3rd in 800m, 1st in 1500m); Joel H (2nd in 800m, 1st in 1500m); and Rubymay P (1st in 200m) will represent NCS and CSSA at the CIS State Athletics in September.
Emily and Joel also set new state records in the 1500m. Emily’s consistently high placing across all events (4th in long jump, 3rd in discus) meant that she was awarded the age champion trophy in her age group. Congratulations!
Apart from individual events, NCS also entered three relay teams. Two of these teams managed to win their heats with one team coming seventh overall. Our senior girls relay team produced a memorable performance! Coming from behind, Nancy O managed to get us into a winnable position as she handed the baton to Rubymay P. From there Rubymay ran a flawless 100m to win the heat!
Well done to all students for representing our school and zone with excellent sportsmanship and camaraderie.
