Delighted art lovers were wowed at the opening of the Shoalhaven Art Society 54th Annual Open Art Exhibition held on Saturday 3 August. The exhibition incorporates the Shoalhaven Youth Art Prize.
A number of NCS students entered some beautiful artworks. After much deliberation by a judging panel of three professional artists, five NCS students took out awards. First Place in the Senior division was awarded to Emily K with her oil painting "Amethyst". The judges were impressed with the quiet and intimate mood of this piece. The work shows a sophisticated still life with a beautiful palette and delicate brushstrokes. The audience was enchanted with the ambiguous sense of space.
First Place in the Junior division was awarded to Sarah K with her acrylic on canvas painting of her chook "Specky". This work shows a bold and confident sense of colour with lovely textural and detailed marks. The painting shows strength and certainly communicated a visual impact to the audience.
