Primary Zone Athletics

On Thursday, 2 August, 39 students from NCS' primary department attended the CSSA South Coast Zone Athletics Carnival in Wollongong. NCS competed strongly all day, striving for longer, higher and faster distances and times than at our school carnival in Term 2.

Keonie A ran her 200m about two and a half seconds faster, Josh C knocked almost 4 seconds off his 800m time, Corinne C was 18 seconds (wow!) faster over 800m and Isaac C was faster in 100, 200 and 800m events. Miles C was faster in his 100m, whilst Hayley E improved her 800m time by an incredible 37 seconds and her 1500 by about 30 seconds! Kent E improved his high jump by 6 cms and his 200m time. Adele G ran 800m almost 20 seconds faster than at school, Joel H improved on his season's best times over 100, 200 and 1500m. Tom H and Ethan L were quicker over 100 and 200m and other events, Izabelle L threw nearly 30cm further in shot put and Charlie L B improved her discus by a similar amount. Hamish and Emily M both improved on various season's bests throughout the day. India M and Latoya M ran 100 and 200m faster than previously, as did Nancy O, Rubymay P, Layla M, Emma S and Aleisha P. Ella P jumped about 13 cm further in LJ. Alexis WJ improved her 800m time as did Noah T.

All 4 of our relay teams finished in the top 3 and made the State team. As well as those team events, we had other individuals who made it through to the Blacktown based gala event. 21 students in total qualified for the South Coast Zone Athletics team for the CSSA Primary State Athletics Carnival.

The team finished the day in third place on 414 points, over 150 points ahead of the next placed school (similar in size to us) - so once again we rose to the occasion and well and truly excelled expectations. There were 2 age champions for zone: Layla M - 8 years girls and Emily Mc - 10 years girls. Joel H was so very close, missing out on 10 Years boys zone age champion by only 1 point. Well done all of you. We're so very proud.

On behalf of parents and teachers who attended, well done to all our zone students from the 2018 team. You really were stand-outs. Thanks to all the parents, carers and grandparents who transported, attended and cheered on our students. It was greatly appreciated. Ta very much!
