On Thursday, 14 September nineteen students from Years 5-6 took part in the annual Shoalhaven Basketball Gala Day for Primary Schools.
We had two boys teams and one girls team in the competition. Our teams all managed plenty of wins, a single draw and a few losses. All three teams made it out of the group stages and into the quarter finals. There was some fine play by all concerned. Matt S carried the hopes of the Boys B team scoring almost all the points, helped by strong defence from Luke B and Noah S.
The girls were very competitive, but mixed that with displays of very sporting behaviour. One of the opposition players came to Mr Parker to remark how they'd noticed our girls play with such great fairness (Mr Parker's fave moment of the whole day). Julia, Sarah and Amelia were among the best and fairest. The Boys A's won every game, with great teamwork and the individual flair of team captain Azriel and tallest player Tane. Both were virtually impossible to dispossess.
The Girls and Boys B's both lost tight finals matches by just one basket. The Boys A's managed to get all the way to the final, where they triumphed over a strong team from NAC by a single point thanks to Matt M's winning basket. Victory was not assured until after the final buzzer when the opposition were just one free throw from taking the game into overtime.
Members of the winning NCS Boys A team: Azriel, Matt, Dylan, Cody, Ollie and Tane were given a huge trophy, which will be inscribed with our school's name and medals to keep.
There is plenty of promise for our school's future in this sport for years to come with the high standard of the players we have coming through into high school from Stage 3 in the next two years.
