  • Support Defence students and their families as they integrate into the school community

  • Encourage the social, emotional, and academic wellbeing of Defence students, particularly during times of parental absence or relocation.

  • Provide opportunities for students to develop confidence, resilience, and a sense of belonging.

  • Raise awareness within the school community of the unique challenges faced by Defence families.

Selection Criteria

  • Demonstrated personal faith and commitment to the Lord Jesus Christ and an active member of a local Protestant church.

  • Demonstrated ability to empathise and work with students from Kindergarten to Year 12.

  • Understanding of the unique needs of Defence families and the Defence lifestyle.

  • Demonstrated experience or qualifications relevant to education, wellbeing, or pastoral care would be an advantage.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to communicate effectively across diverse groups and to exercise discretion, problem solving, and conflict resolution skills.

  • Strong computer skills across MS Office or Google Suite

  • Ability to plan, organise, and deliver creative programs and resources to support students and families.

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively, maintain confidentiality, and manage competing priorities.

Mandatory Requirements

  • Reference from current Protestant church minister

  • Completion of the school’s online application form

  • Current NSW Working With Children Check approval number

  • Current First Aid Certificate or willingness to obtain

Defence School Mentor

Providing practical and wellbeing support to the Defence families within our school. This position is currently funded for 15 hours per week until 30 June 2026.
