HSC Drama goes Belvoir in Bomaderry?

Belvoir Street Theatre HSC Regional Workshop On Thursday May 17, NCS HSC Drama students partnered with Nowra High School HSC Drama Students to participate in a Belvoir Street Theatre Regional HSC Workshop that targeted the core Group Performance module and the elective Individual Performance from the HSC Course Requirements. By combining with Nowra High School our students were able to interact with, share ideas and build relationships with their local peers studying the same course. The Group Performance workshop targeted the physicality required to create a ‘performance’ rather than a ‘play’, a concept that many of our students had been struggling to grasp. Belvoir St tutor and industry professional Anna, used a series of rhythmic inspired viewpoint, connection point and movement based activities to assist students move from plot driven play building to concept based playbuilding. During the Individual Performance Workshop Anna led students through a refresher course on Stanislavski’s fundamental questions and then gave students the opportunity to practically apply these questions to their character in a real life situation. This allowed our students to really embody their character and explore both physical and emotional responses to relational and environmental factors. The workshop was kindly hosted by The Nowra Players at their Bomaderry Theatre. This was the perfect venue and allowed our students to feel a sense of professionalism during the workshop. Throughout the day students were able to interact with the Tim Tam’s (The Players production crew) as they painted, created and built props, sets and costumes for their upcoming production ‘The Perfect Murder’. This gave our students who have chosen to do an individual project in design the opportunity to ask questions with experienced industry professionals and make connections that they will be able to build on and use during the progress of their individual project.
