Uniform clarification for Secondary students

May 18, 2018

An email was sent home to Secondary parents, earlier this week, regarding some uniform clarification of the Secondary students.

As a staff, we greatly appreciate parents & carers working in partnership with the school to ensure that our school uniform and appearance policy is upheld. As from last Monday all students should be wearing their full winter uniform.

All uniform matters are clearly outlined in the 2018 Information Book (pp. 46-49)

Detailed information regarding various aspects of dress/uniform are covered in the Information Book on the following pages:

  • ·  Jewellery - page 23

  • ·  Hair - page 19

  • ·  Headwear - page 20

  • ·  Makeup - page 24

  • ·  Uniform (general) - page 34

  • ·  Summer & Winter Uniform - page 46-49

  • ·  Shoes page 43

Students are required to wear the navy hat supplied through the School's Uniform Shop (as outlined on p.46 of the handbook). Some Secondary students have not been able to get hats in the correct size.  In this situation, should the Uniform Shop not have the correct size, a note should be sent by parents, explaining the problem, and an alternative navy cap (without any monogram) may be worn until such time as the Uniform Shop is able to supply the school cap in the appropriate size.

Recently, there has also been some confusion regarding the appropriate wearing of jewellery, piercings and studs. Clear information is provided in the handbook on page 23.  Students will be asked to remove jewellery that is located in piercings that are outside school policy (including mouth & nose piercings). This matter will then be treated as a discipline issue.

Nowra Christian School appreciates the cooperation of parents and carers in helping their children to observe the School’s Uniform Policy.

On page 34 of the handbook there is an explanation as to why the school feels it is so important to have our students wearing their school uniform well.  Part of this states:

“…We believe that uniform communicates a great deal about our school, but, more importantly, the way that parents and the school work together in maintaining appropriate standards in this area says even more about the strength of our community.”
