A note from Mr Bray - 28 February, 2020

Focus verse: ‘I praise You because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Your works are wonderful, I know that full well.’ (Psalm 139:14 NIV) I am writing this article on Thursday evening and feeling somewhat amazed that we are nearly at the conclusion of the fifth week of this term. This past week has been a very important one at our school because it is Open Week (from Tuesday through to Friday). This is the time when we advertise to our wider community that our school is ‘open’ each day between 10.00am and 2.00pm for any families who would like to have a guided tour of Nowra Christian School. These tours are usually conducted by either our Year 6 or Senior School student leaders and we hav

NCS Swimming Carnival - 2020

This year’s carnival fell foul of some otherwise welcome rain and had to be postponed, eventuating in a competitors-only format. Our keen and competitive swimmers still created a very exciting atmosphere on the day with a number of records being challenged or broken. A big congratulations to the students in Sea Kings, our champion house for the day. We want to congratulate all the students who came first or second, some of whom will go to represent our school at their respective zone carnivals – (see report below) Below is a list of our Swimming Age Champions. They will be announced and banners presented at our next assembly. High School Age Champions for NCS Swimming Carnival 2020: 12 years

Urban Landscapes/ New Horizons

Stage 5 Visual Arts students visited Shoalhaven Regional Gallery on Monday to enjoy a number of exhibitions. 'Suburbia' explores four artists' interpretations of their suburban environment. Students found inspiration for their body of work based on their own urban landscape. The exclusive gallery tour also included the 'New Horizon's' exhibition which showcases HSC artworks from the Shoalhaven Region, including seven Nowra Christian School students. 'I really enjoyed our excursion. It's a nice gallery and the artworks were very interesting'- Harrison F 'I loved the HSC exhibition. There were some cool artworks there' - Isaac P. Watch this space to see the Years 9/10 artworks relating to the

Year 7 Big Day Out

The excursion to Bangalee Reserve was a well thought out day that we all enjoyed. The scenery was incredible as we were walking through the paddocks and bush, but the bugs were a pain. My favourite part would be splashing my friends with water at the jetty. It was a great way to spend time with friends and get out to the bush for a change, but in the future bugspray will be needed! Dakota P The excursion was great! My personal favourite activity was bushwalking because we stopped at a boulder and we climbed it. The other thing I liked was catapulting because anything that you launch something with is fun. Ned G It was really fun. When we did the bush walk we got to climb up some

HSC Visual Arts Students 'Time to Shine'

When an art gallery calls an artist and wants to exhibit their work, you know that artist is successful! Seven NCS HSC Visual Arts students have their HSC artworks showcased at the 'New Horizons' exhibition at Shoalhaven Regional Gallery. Exhibiting wonderful technical skill and contemporary ideas, the works are as individual as those who created them. Mr Bray officially opened the exhibition in front of a huge crowd who gathered to celebrate the students' success. He spoke of the determination and skill required by the students as well as the added skill in writing about artists in their HSC Visual Arts examination. Not an easy feat, but it can be done! This exhibition is evidence of just t

Senior Drama OnSTAGE

The Senior Drama students travelled to Sydney on Thursday to attend OnSTAGE. These are the top performances and projects for Drama for the HSC in the previous year. Although the weather was very steamy, we were so thankful that it did not rain as we walked around Sydney University and then on to the Seymour Centre to OnSTAGE. The projects on display included costume and set design, theatrical reviews and theatrical promotions. The performances were both individual monologues and groups. Naturally, the standard was very high and we all, teacher and students alike, came away feeling inspired. As usual, the students were a delight to take on excursion. Thank you everyone for a fabulous day.

Nowra Show a success!

The annual Nowra Show went ahead this year despite the torrential rain, with students of all ages represented in entries from art-making to vegetable growing. NCS was well rewarded with many individual first and second prizes in the pavilion. It was thrilling for parents, staff, and students to walk around the cakes, flowers, drawings, and lego to find all of our winning entries! Special congratulations to our ribbon winners: Sophia W (8yrs and under Art - outstanding exhibit); William A (Junior Hard Craft - outstanding exhibit); and Mrs Stewart (Beauty in a Recycled Container - outstanding floral display). NCS was also proud to be announced as the winners of the "Garden in a Wheelbarrow" co

A note from Mr Bray - 14 February, 2020

‘When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said ‘I am the light of the world.’’ John 8:12(a) (NIV) This past fortnight has seen the arrival of the final members of our NCS school ‘family’. It was a very exciting morning on Wednesday, 5 February when our Kindergarten 2020 children and their parents/carers and many extended family members arrived for this very first day of ‘Big School’. I am delighted to say that our Kindergarten children have done a wonderful job of settling into the routines of school life. I took the opportunity to visit both of our Kindergarten classes on this first Wednesday morning and I was amazed to see how well they were working and how carefully they were paying atten

La Chandeleur

Once again, as we begin the new year, the French classes celebrated the annual 'Chandeleur' or pancake day. This is an opportunity to pray for blessing on the year ahead. It is said that crepes remind people of the sun (round and golden - if well cooked!) and so in the northern hemisphere it is a reminder that warmer days are on the way after the cold of winter. They also have the tradition of holding a coin in your dominant hand while trying to flip a crepe with the other hand. If you succeed, you will have a prosperous year ahead. However, rather than trusting our crepe-flipping skills, we will trust in our God for the year that He gives us! Bonne Année!
