So much more to the ‘Easter story’ than chocolates and bunnies!

Focus verse: John 20: 31 ‘But these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.’ (NIV) As you are reading this BYTES article, people throughout Australia are preparing to ‘celebrate’ Easter. For many in our secular world, these ‘celebrations’ will centre around a number of days of holiday away from the world of work. There will also be Easter eggs and chocolates in a variety of types and forms; the Easter bunny will make an appearance and, of course, there will be the aroma of freshly toasted hot cross buns dripping with melted butter! All in all, Easter would appear to provide us with a time of rest and rela

NCS Prime Movers at Relay for Life

The Relay for Life is a fantastic opportunity for students to show compassion and care towards those with cancer and raise funds for cancer research. Held at the Nowra Showground last weekend, team members took turns walking from 9:30am till 8pm Saturday, and some teams had members walking all night until 9:30am Sunday. A few participants even walked (or ran) for the whole 24 hours! Highlights of the day included the Survivors lap for those who have beaten cancer, and bands and choirs performing throughout the day to inspire all the teams. The stall run by Mrs Bellette was very popular as students could collect a bead for every lap they completed. Some students walked up to 20km on the day.

From little seeds big radishes grow

‘For those who make themselves great will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be made great.’(Good News Translation) Luke 14: 11 I wanted to begin this Bytes article by sharing with you an interesting ‘journey’ that originally happened by accident when I was walking from my car one afternoon during Week 4 of this term. If I was to provide a title for this journey, I would use the expression ‘from little seeds big radishes grow’. As I was walking back towards my office, I happened to glance across towards the vegetable garden located near our Infants section and I noticed that Mr McLennan was there with a class of excited students. When I came closer to investigate, I discovered

Masterplanning, milking and other musings

In our last edition of NCS Bytes, I referred to the excitement surrounding our newly arrived secondary classrooms. At our well-attended Twilight Family Picnic, we took the opportunity to provide a number of guided tours for parents and carers to inspect these very impressive new facilities. I am pleased to say that, during the past fortnight, these classrooms have been used extensively by our staff and students and they are certainly proving to be a welcome addition to the teaching and learning facilities at NCS. Our School Board are continuing to carefully plan for the future growth and development of Nowra Christian School. One component of this planning that has been previously shared

Year 8 gets creative op shopping

Last Tuesday morning, during their double period, Year 8 Technology class went to Salvation Army Depot in South Nowra. They were there to source materials and fabrics for the textiles project that they are designing and making. The class had previously watched videos about the problem that “fast fashion” creates with tonnes of clothes being put into landfill. Instead of adding to the landfill, the projects they are designing will be made from repurposed fabric. They had a great time looking through the racks and racks of second hand clothes, fabrics and bedding to find the right colour and fabric type for their project. The workers at the Depot were excited to hear about what the class was d

Great weather for ducks - and swimmers!

On Monday, 26 February 33 NCS students participated in the Primary Zone Swimming. Even though precipitation was abundant for most of the event, there were smiles and fun to be had throughout. The parents, grandparents and helpers ended up nearly as wet as the children who swam! The NCS team represented our primary department with great skill and dedication, many of them filling in for other students who weren't able to make it on the day. There were great results in the pool. Joseph Petts finished as 11 Year Boys Zone Age Champion - a fantastic achievement. There were places at the state carnival in Blacktown 'up for grabs', so many of our primary students tried their hardest and managed to

Students go full 'STEAM' ahead

Years 7 and 8 Technology students had the opportunity to experience Wollongong University's facilities during an interactive STEAM day last week. The students participated in 4 interactive STEAM workshops covering ideas such as artificial muscle production, eco packaging, population mathematics and coding technologies. The day also included seeing some amazing emerging hollogram technology, with many of our students getting the chance to make their very own hologram with an interactive "hollow" lense. The day had a focus on encouraging our female students to see STEAM based careers as a viable post-school option, and judging from their reactions to the workshops and presentations, this looks
