Primary Instrumental Program

The Primary Instrumental Program is starting in week 4 so students will be receiving instruments on Tuesday. (I'm sure it has felt like a very long four weeks for some of them!!) Along with the instruments will be some information about instrumental care and a hire agreement which will need to be signed and returned. When students have received their instrument they may need a little reminding/encouraging to keep track of it! They will need to bring their instrument and music (which they will receive) each Tuesday (and then remember to take it home with them after school!). They may also need a little help initially to set their instrument up at home and practice. The expectation for all s

UOW Discovery Day

On Friday, 9 February the University of Wollongong generously provided NCS with a bus to take 10 Year 12 students to Discovery Day. Discovery Day is an opportunity for HSC students to experience life on a university campus and participate in a selection of university tutorials, workshops and lectures. Our students had to register for Discovery Day in 2017 and, just like true university students, they selected a pattern of study that suited their interests. On the day, all 1,200 students present crammed into the main lecture hall for an engaging and comical keynote address before going their separate ways into their chosen streams of study. Many of our students left the day feeling excited ab

Stage 6 Drama OnSTAGE

On Tuesday, 6 February Stage 6 Drama students travelled by train to Sydney for OnSTAGE, a showcase of exemplary performances and projects submitted by students for the 2017 Higher School Certificate Drama Examination. Students were able to observe a range of costume, stage and lighting designs as well as directorial portfolios and applied research projects in the foyer of the Seymour Centre before heading in to watch a showcase of Group Performances and Monologues. Our students were amazed by the quality and sophistication of each project and performance and left inspired and motivated to push on in their personal Stage 6 Drama studies.

A note from Mr Bray - 19 February 2018

‘Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the Lord our God.’ Psalm 20:7 (NIV) As previously announced, it has now been a fortnight since our last NCS Bytes and much has happened in the life of our school during that time. I would like to share with you just some of the many events and programs that have taken place. Firstly, I have been delighted with the way in which our 95 brand new NCS students have settled into their new school. 39 of these students commenced their ‘big’ school journey on Wednesday, 7 February which was the first day of our Kindergarten program. This is always a very special day for both the Kindergarten children and for their parents/carer

Students elevated early on

On the first day of school, Elevate Education came to our school to run some study skills workshop for Years 7 - 10 students. Year 7 completed Study Skills Kickstart. Here is some of the feedback received: Really helpful especially because I am going to high school. Helpful and well presented. I was engaged the entire time. That you need to take notes with everything especially when given tests. Trigger words How to scan and recognise key points and ideas. Mind maps Year 8 completed Junior Time Management. Some of their feedback included: This was very good and was even better with a young presenter because he was very active and easy to understand. To study more because it is useful. How t

NCS welcomes two new counsellors

We are very excited to have Mrs Jodie Dearsley and Mrs Jane Donald join our school’s Wellbeing Team this year. Mrs Dearsley is a Registered Psychologist/Counsellor and Mrs Donald is a qualified Counsellor. Mrs Dearsley has considerable experience as both a Primary Teacher and as a School Counsellor. She has worked in many public schools throughout Western Sydney, the Sutherland Shire and the Shoalhaven. Mrs Dearsley and her husband Matt have 4 children and attend Berry Community Church. ‘I am looking forward to being part of Nowra Christian School, so far I have found it to be such a beautiful and caring place to work. ‘I am also excited about being able to share my faith openly and being ab

Students set sights on Bye Bye Birdie

Stage 6 Visual Design students have creatively considered how they will bring the atmosphere of Bye Bye Birdie to life on stage. 'Stage sets and props' form part of the Stage 6 Visual Design syllabus, a new course offered at Nowra Christian School this year, and Mrs Stewart saw this as a perfect opportunity for students to participate in a real life learning based project. 'The brief was set and Mrs Ellery was our client', Nicholas Astill explained. 'We had to consider the overall directorial vision of the musical, the intended audience experience, create mood boards, colour schemes and paint samples and then design the stage sets and props. Our conceptual stage drawings visually reinforced

NCS Family Twilight Picnic - 16 February 2018

The aim of this evening is to bring all school families together in a relaxed atmosphere at the conclusion of a school week to enjoy a meal and shared conversation. I would especially encourage all parents/carers who are new to NCS to come along to this event as it will provide a wonderful opportunity to meet with other school families. The evening is designed to be a ‘come when you can and leave when you must’ event. There will be food and drink available and some entertainment and activities suited to young children in particular. Families are also welcome to bring their own meals to this event. We will also be conducting tours of the new school classrooms and outdoor space during the ni

Welcome back from Mr Bray!

Focus verse: ‘For the Lord is good and his love endures forever; his faithfulness continues through all generations.’ Psalm 100: 5 (NIV) It was wonderful to welcome our students back for the 2018 school year this Tuesday. I enjoyed seeing students, young and old, greeting friends who they hadn’t seen for many weeks and sharing their holiday experiences. The sounds of excited voices in the playground and the sight of groups of students all neatly attired in new school uniforms added life and vitality to our well-presented school grounds. Added to this sight, were the many mums and dads and carers who were bringing their children to school, some for their very first day at Nowra Christian Scho
